The NSGRC or "Nationals" as it's more commonly known, is a competition in which TTRPG (D&D, etc) societies come together and play a weekend of Boardgames, judged on how fun they are to play with. In 2025 MMU (My uni) is hosting and I've taken on the role of Creative Director, designing and developing the 'Cyberpunk' graphics and theming for this years event!!
Jump_Test_0
Uni - 2025
Director/VFX Artist/Actor
Jump_Test_0 is my final year individual project that I'm developing for my degree show later this year. It's an immersive art installation that combines different perspective into unreal engine worlds I've developed and physical components to compel audiences to believe they are on a journey across alternative realities as guided by the individual who built the 'ship' they are standing in.
The History of Background Replacement
Uni - 2024
Director/Host/Editor/Researcher
I developed this video essay as a part of one of my university modules. Given my passion for VFX and the interesting and exciting ways that background replacement has evolved over the years, I dived head into research and developed this piece, attempting to at least in some way, recreate each form of background replacement as I talked about it. Despite some issues (Namely talking pretty fast to try and fit everything in), it's a project I'm very proud of and it has given me the itch to make more.
I looked into my eyes
Personal - 2024
VFX Artist
I looked into my eyes is a short film created by Joe Bubb, a filmmaking student at the same university I'm at. Due to working with the DoP, Rowan Wilson on an earlier project, I was approached to provide my skills in VFX. As a part of this project I used DaVinci Resolve's Fusion to composite additional falling paper to combine with the limited number used on set and to cover the cut from church into void. It's some work I'm very proud of.
Downpour
Personal - 2024
Runner/Lighting Assistant
Downpour is the brainchild and final year project of director Zedd Simpson. It follows a man struggling with grief and substance abuse during a torrential rainstorm. I was only brought on as a Runner, later helping out the Gaffer to light the scene and maintain the equipment but the opportunity to shoot on location with such an amazing crew was a wonderful opportunity and its a piece I'm very grateful to have been a part of.
Oliver Michael Tinsley: Degree show Visuals
Personal - 2024
VFX Artist
Towards the end of my second year, I was approached by a final year Music and Sound student who was looking for some visuals to go with his degree show piece. Given the black and white, horror-esque aesthetics some of my previous work (A style he was looking for) he decided to ask me to create a 10 minute piece inspired by old films like the original Nosferatu and other Horror classics.
Echelon
Personal - 2024
Set Photographer/Runner
Echelon is an award winning final year film directed by Jennifer Masua-Zola that follows the story of a black ballerina struggling to find her place in the white dominated ballet community. I was brought on as a set photographer on location at the producers house in Liverpool and used a combination of Digital and Film photography to be able to capture all the emotion and the process behind the production of Echelon.
Sealife
Personal -2024
Camera Operator/Editor
A very spontaneous shoot, this project came about because of a trip to Manchester Sealife centre for a friends birthday. All I had was my phone but inspired by content I'd seen on social media I decided to try and capture the colour and beauty of the atmospheric tanks that were teeming with life. Despite only being shot with my iPhone I'm very pleased with the quality and colour I managed to capture and my editing that brought the piece together alongside the music I chose.
Technology Design Innovation: IDLES Virtual Production Concept
Uni - 2024
VFX Artist
Developed as part of a second year university project in which we had to create an innovative marketing concept to promote an artist/band, I constructed these unreal engine worlds to showcase my idea to use virtual production volumes live on stage to create immersive backdrops for the artists performing. I chose IDLES as my artist due to their striking music videos and created backdrops that reflected them. The concept also included the potential to incorporate audience interaction given the real-time nature of the games engines that volumes run on, allowing for unique experiences for audiences.
PSF_Core
Personal - 2024
VFX Artist
Inspired by a Dungeons and Dragons Campaign I was involved in, this piece is my take on "Mr Peterson's Office,", a location we came across on our travels. At the time I was pretty new to unreal and given the inspiration, I dived headfirst into making. Admittedly I went a little wild and did not particularly optimize the space leading to rather large file size (Something I have improved on significantly I will add) but despite this, it's a very special piece to me and one I am immensely proud of given it's consistent visual language and atmospheric environment
Approximant
Uni - 2023
VFX Artist
Created at the beginning of my second year at university this is the first piece I made using unreal engine. Our task was to create a narrative piece that incorporated at least some part created in unreal. I decided to take on the challenge of creating it entirely using the software. Through it I became intimately aware of keyframe animation using the level sequencer (a practice I have taken further into my other projects) and created an atmospheric and intriguing piece that showcased my emerging skillset with the software.
Banzai
Personal - 2023
Director/Editor
Link to Project
Created over the summer after my first year at university ended, this music video was created for my Dad's band. Given my lack of Filmmaking equipment I decided to scour the internet for open-source archival footage that, given the themes of the song 'banzai' showcased gambling and iconography surrounding it. Whilst it is the only piece I have created for the band, it's something I hope to do again in the future.
Late Night Laundry
Personal - 2023
Director/Actor/Editor
Link to Project
This short emerged out of the boredom of a sleepless night and the fact I hadn't done my laundry. Pretty spontaneously I decided to make something small that would both cure my boredom and get me to do my washing. Whilst nothing ground-breaking, I'm happy with how this little piece turned out and the oddly profound messaging that I came up with during the process of recording the voice over for it.
Co-Labs: Machine
Uni - 2022
Editor/Colourist
Link to Project
Coming together right at the end, this short art film came out of my first 'Co-Labs' a module that MMU's School of Digital Arts puts on that spans courses and encourages those of different disciplines to work together. Despite its simplicity, the piece my group came out with has an eerie beauty to it and my contributions as an editor and colourist I feel really add to it.
Contact
Uni - 2022
Camera Operator/Editor/Colourist
Link to Project
One of the first pieces I created at university, Contact is a piece that follows a parallel two characters travelling from two separate points in the Greater Manchester area eventually arriving at the same location in the end. Working as part of a group of three I took on the role of Camera op and Editor, bringing this piece to life in the edit alongside Director and star of the piece Owen Carford. Unfortunately, we hadn't been given access to some of the higher end equipment that we would later get access to however, despite this, the lo-fi feel adds to the seedy nature of the characters we created.
Encroaching
Personal - 2020
Director/Camera Operator/Editor
Link to Project
Arguably the first film I created, Encroaching is a piece I made to supplement some work I was doing as part of my Digital Media A-Level. Our task was to create a trailer for a documentary and I decided to base mine on Oli Brotherhood's '#5AMFilmClub'. As such I decided I would create my own piece to supplement the trailer. I took my parents DSLR stills camera and shot the piece using the video mode, unfortunately not the highest quality equipment but this fits with the film club ethos of going out and shooting for the sake of it, getting you up and out and creating. For my first piece, I'm happy to call it my own and it's inspired me to create more spontaneously.
